SEACA Newsletter – January 2020
So much has happened since the last newsletter, voting on bylaws amendments, Christmas, New Years, my birthday, my spouse’s birthday, even my kids had a birthday since the last newsletter.
Our Regional Rally at Lazydays was a success. At the meeting component of the rally, the members agreed that if necessary, to assure a rally worthy of our membership, we could ask members to pay over $300. The leadership has made an effort to hold our rallies below the $300 even when that has resulted in the Chapter taking a loss on many of the rallies. Be assured even with this approval, every attempt will be made to bring you the best rally at the most reasonable rates.
If you missed the 2020 Regional rally and Supershow, you missed a lot of fun and some great food.
Our master griller/smoker/BarBQ King, Rodney Renner with the help of Keith Landers and others, did an amazing job with our Bar B-Q and low-country boil dinners. REV joined us one evening and supplied our dinner that night which included great sliders, sandwiches, tater tots and more. Thank you, REV. Additionally, Lazydays contributed $200 to help defray the cost of our meals at the Supershow. Thank you, Lazydays.
Between the Regional Rally and the Supershow we had 5 new members and 9 past or present Chapter Presidents. One past Southeast chapter president, Bob Franks is also a past National President and another past chapter president (Great Lakes) Bob Carani was National Vice President. This is worthy of mention because it reflects on what a wonderful chapter this is, how friendly our members are and what a good time we have together. Jim Graham, who was Southeast President, Ch sometime around the Truman Administration and his much younger wife Doty (HaHaHa) continue to attend many of our events. The Chapter leadership strives to maintain a chapter that continues to build relationships, maintain those relationships and develop new and lasting relationships.
We are working on the 10th annual rally at Lazydays. The dates for this rally will be January 6 through 17, 2021. We hope this rally can once again be officially designated a Regional rally by the ACA Board and are waiting for Board approval. According to ACA’s Rally Rules, such a designation will not be made and ACA financial support given a regional rally will not be granted unless we have at least 50 coaches registered. A contract with Lazydays reserving 60 sites has been signed for January 9 through 11. Additionally, as part of the rally, we will have our gathering of former Happy Wanderers and Southeast friends January 6th through 9th. On January 11th or 12th we will move to the Florida Supershow. This Association.
February 2021 (3-6 or 7 or 8) is when our adventure at Disney’s Fort Wilderness begins with a social hour on February 3. Sites are blocked from February 1 through 10. This is an ala carte gathering as meals and park admissions are not included. There are social hours in the morning and afternoon. The deadline for booking this event may have passed. However, if you are interested, I would call Hilda Neal (302-598-8892), tell her you are with Southeast Chapter of ACA and I am sure she will help if she can
The Spring takes us to St. Augustine. This has been a popular rally and has sold out in the past. Compass RV Resort is the campground closest to downtown St. Augustine. Our hosts John and Jill Schafer and Dick and Pat Lokar are working to make this rally a huge success. Registration is now available online at www.southeastaca.net. Be sure to register and reserve your site.
The location of our Fall rally is yet to be determined. Tennessee or Georgia are being considered. Fall foliage is a deciding factor on moving this rally out of Florida. Dates for the rally are October 15 through 19, 2021. Even without a location, please be sure to save the dates. As soon as a site is nailed down, notice to our members will be forthcoming.
The Christmas rally for 2021 has moved!! It will be held at Creekside RV Resort in beautiful Punta Gorda, FL. The dates for the rally are December 3 through 7, 2021. There has been a rate increase in 2020 at Creekside and sites will be at the attendees choosing (perimeter, waterside and premium). Site prices are set according to location. Punta Gorda is a city with canals running throughout. Residents go to great lengths to decorate during the Christmas season. You won’t want to miss this rally. Relatively new members, Jerry and Kay Venlett have agreed to host this rally. If anyone would like to work with them, I know they would appreciate the assistance.
Please welcome our newest members Michael and Nancy Gess, Ronnie and Christy Jones, Larry and Becky Schuster, Ronald and Ruth Sherman and Bob and Sandie Wells.
On a very personal note, thank you to all of you who expressed your heart-felt sympathy to Michael and me over the sudden death of our beloved dog, Charlie P Wilkerson, while we were at the Regional Rally. Those who knew Charlie, knew he was our RV escape artist. We miss him and our RV travels will not be the same.
Safe travels. Hoping to see you soon at one of our future rallies.
